JOAN OF ARC - WHO IS SHE?
Joan of Arc is singer songwriter Lara Taubman who began creating music 12 years ago as a way to heal herself as music had done for her throughout her life. Based in New York City, her creative home, she is inspired to make music to save people from their darkness by showing them its ok to face their darkness. Joan of Arc is Lara’s complete vision of truth, grittiness, relentlessly real, angry, funny, tender and unexpected, fun, and funny. It is an ongoing creative project that seeks the odd and extraordinary to create a new sound, a song, a feeling, an idea.
Lara started out in music as an acoustic singer songwriter inspired by folk storytellers like Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, Mavis Staples and Leonard Cohen and others. As Joan of Arc, Lara still desires to channel these inspirational storytellers with the healing powers of music. Having a larger vision that includes sounds and images she creates both digitally and acoustically alongside projected images both hand drawn and digital. Joan of Arc is Lara’s commitment to producing and live performing with Ableton software. Her desire to free her vision even more in live performances drove her to use the Ableton Push which has led her to DJ and art performances as a means to storytelling now using a broader brush with a vast palette of sounds at her fingertips.
In New York City, the world that raised up musicians like Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Laurie Anderson, Andy Warhol, Lou Reed, Beastie Boys and other creative, innovative and quirky, independent musicians like them, Joan of Arc finds her true essence. With an insouciant and surprising twist, Joan of Arc defies genre as a multimedia experience that embodies all the things Lara has learned to create in her life into a singular vision.
